Fall 2009 Challenge Details

Welcome to The Sawdust Chronicles’ 60-Day Challenge!

The Sawdust Chronicles’ 60-Day Challenge is simply that – a challenge. We will be challenging you, the beginning and amateur woodworkers, to complete a woodworking project within 60 days that positively impacts your environment/community.

This time you pick the project, you find or create the plans, you iron out the details, you complete the project, and your community reaps the rewards. If you are lucky, you will win a prize.

The level of difficulty of the challenge should be self-scaled depending on your level of woodworking talent. A majority of the challenge is dependent upon the honor system. There is an entry form to fill out and email, and there will be checks in place to keep the contestants honest. But for the most part, this challenge will depend on your honor.

Here’s the deal:

On the morning of August 5th we will publish a podcast episode and a page on this website explaining the finer points of the rules and requirements of the challenge. You will have 25 days to get ready for the challenge. Meaning, you will have 25 days to get your shop in order, warn the family that you will be spending every available minute of your time working in the shop or chasing down that project design for the next 2 months, fill out the required entry form and email it to us. You will receive a confirmation email when it has been checked over.

Then, on the morning of September 1st, we will publish a podcast episode explaining the project. You will have the next 60 days to complete and submit your projects in order to be considered for the competition. Entries will be judged on criteria that we will provide to you, and will be judged by Rick Waters, Pete Bretzke, Erik Pearson and our guest judge, Neil Lamens.

What do we use the forms for?
We use them to promote your woodworking-related website, if you have one; determine if you are placing yourself in the correct category (beginner or amateur); to keep track of the registered contestants.

Registration will not close until the 1st of October. That’s right, you can still get into the Challenge until we’re half-way through it.

We have valuable top-notch prizes to give away, so don’t hesitate to get your entry forms in to us!
